For The Culture: A Genealogy Handbook For The Cool Kids

$20.00

Aungelic “Gigi” Nelson had been unable to find a family history book written specifically for Black teens, so decided to write it herself.  Genealogy is too often seen as a hobby for older people, but she wants to change that narrative and help our kids understand that they have a history and a culture that started before slavery.  With a lot of pictures, a little history, and a culturally relevant perspective, this book is a must-have for every Black family to engage youth (ages 11-19) with their elders and start those conversations about the past.  The book is used in educational and community programs to introduce young people and adults to genealogy and family storytelling. Pan-African in outlook, this is a one-of-a-kind resource and activity handbook that helps ground Black youth in their identity and strengthen resilience.
